Global superstar and Twitter’s most influential man of 2018 broadcast live in virtual reality to fans all over the world.
We ended the year on a high in London, as Liam took to the stage for our first MelodyVR Live event. Joining a packed out venue of super-fans, VIPs, press and guests inside KOKO, Liam’s global fan base tuned in from around the world on MelodyVR and Facebook Live. Using our unique jump spot technology, VR attendees went beyond the best seats in the house, watching the show from the stage itself, and choosing their spot to get closer to Liam than ever before throughout the performance.
“There are a lot of places around the world I haven’t been to, so many fans that haven’t seen me perform live, and may never have got the chance to without MelodyVR’s technology. Giving my fans the ability to watch this concert from an angle no-one ever sees it from is a really amazing thing. It’s better than having an All Access pass – they’re right there on-stage with me!” – Liam Payne
Our first MelodyVR Live event begins a new chapter, where music fans get unprecedented access to shows, festivals and concerts as they happen in virtual reality, and caps an incredible 2018 for us. In the last 12 months, we have:
Launched the MelodyVR platform to music fans around the world…
The app was released in 10 countries across the UK, the US and Western Europe for Oculus Go and Samsung Gear VR, with a mobile app available on iOS phones to help new users take their first steps into the technology.
… released content from a huge lineup of artists…
From Post Malone – whose album Beerbongs & Bentleys shattered global streaming records this year – to Imagine Dragons: the band who had topped the Billboard Hot Rock chart for 11 of the last 12 months when they were released to Melody in September, to The Chainsmokers, Bebe Rexha, 5 Seconds of Summer and many more, we’ve brought some highly sought-after shows and festivals to virtual reality this year.
“For the die hard fan, access to an artist’s world, their process, and their daily routine can be really fun and exciting. Even I got to experience what it’s like to be on stage performing with my band by watching MelodyVR.” – Adam Alpert, Manager (The Chainsmokers).
… featured in the Oculus “See it in VR” holiday TV campaign…
What’s Wiz Khalifa’s favourite thing to watch in VR? Wiz Khalifa live in MelodyVR, obviously. We featured in the TV ad from Oculus alongside the multi-platinum selling global rap star Wiz, plus Adam Levine, Jonah Hill, Leslie Jones, and Awkwafina, which is currently hitting TV screens across the United States.
… and much more
We announced partnerships with The O2, Alexandra Palace, NEC Group and Ibiza Rocks; featured in Forbes, Wired, the Metro, and Variety, as well as on CNBC, Sky News, and the BBC; demo’d MelodyVR to hundreds of virtual reality delegates at Oculus Connect in Silicon Valley; and grew the Melody senior team with the appointment of Emmy, BAFTA and Rose D’Or nominated Iain Funnell as SVP Content, and former Universal Music Group finance chief Andy Brown joining us as CFO.
Thank you for being on the journey so far, see you in 2019!
